State grant

An electric car with the EKII grant. We handle the paperwork.

You choose a car on AutoScout24 or mobile.de. We check the car and your eligibility, prepare the EKII documents and deliver the car to Riga.

What the EKII grant is

EKII is a state grant for buying zero and low emission cars. It is funded by the Emissions Allowance Auctioning Instrument, and the programme is run by the Environmental Investment Fund.

The grant is open to private individuals who are permanent residents of Latvia. If the fund approves the application, the grant is deducted from the car's price and you pay only the difference.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get the EKII grant for a car from Germany?

Yes, if the car and you meet the programme's conditions. The grant is given only for cars sold by a seller on the Environmental Investment Fund's list and published on ekii.lv. Our company SIA "USUS" is on that list.

Does a used plug-in hybrid qualify?

No. For used cars the grant covers only electric and hydrogen cars. A plug-in hybrid qualifies only if it is new and its CO2 emissions do not exceed 50 g/km.

Do I pay extra for the EKII paperwork?

No. The programme rules do not allow the seller to charge extra for the buyer's taking part in the EKII programme or to raise the car's price for that reason.

Does the grant cover delivery and registration?

No. The grant applies to the car's price. The buyer pays for delivery, registration and other costs, and you will see them in our assessment.

Can a company receive the grant?

No. The grant is for private individuals who are permanent residents of Latvia, and the car may not be used for business.

How do I get the extra 2 000 EUR for my old car?

At the same time as you buy the new car, you hand your petrol, diesel or gas car in for scrapping or give it free of charge to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The car must have been yours for at least three months, registered in Latvia for at least the last year and continuously roadworthy for at least the last 11 months. We will check the exact conditions with you.

Is the grant guaranteed?

No. The Environmental Investment Fund decides once the application has been assessed. We check the car and your eligibility beforehand so that the application is complete.

How long does the programme run?

Applications are accepted until 31 December 2029 or until the programme's funding runs out. The Environmental Investment Fund publishes the remaining funding on ekii.lv.
